Finished watching it after a few years! I got into it when it first released, then dropped it for no particular reason, and decided to binge-watch everything right now. And well!!! I love it!!!
I can definitely say I'd love seeing more of it, but the ending is satisfying enough. The writers have a tendency to write situations where both the good guys and the bad guys don't get everything that they want, which I'd say makes up for a story that is engaging, as even if the good guys do win as you predicted they would, they didn't sweep over their enemies.
It's not like RWBY, where they do that but they just. lose. and lose. and lose. like god damn i like nuanced stories but I also like seeing my characters not be depressed for 3 volumes!!!!!!
But anyway! Meta Runner! Season 1 was rough animation wise, but Season 3 brought something I've been wanting them to do: More variety with the artstyle of the video games shown. Also, in Season 2 they explained how Tari's ability would show up for others, which explains a bit WHY Tari's POV in-game looks detailed compared to how a game would look (But I'd say it's mostly done that way else it'd be quite unappealing to look at... I'm sure they made some tests to animate her POV just like a videogame and it didn't give good results.)
Although, I'm not sure it's a good thing that Skybreakers for me looked SOOO good that I wanted the whole show to look like that, but damn! That style looked reaaaally good and they nailed the designs!
I'm not going to say it looks unappealing, because that'd be a lie. Closeups of Season 1 look have a similar style to Arcane (for the models) which is really insane! I don't hate the Season 1 feel that much, it looks super cheap...But not terrible.
But god, yeah, for Season 2/3 they really went above and beyond and no doubt the collaboration with Epic Games helped them tremendously. I've been wondering if it's real-time 3D or pre-rendered...
For the story, I don't have much to say. I'm a sucker for these sort of universes and stories about changing dimensions, yknow. Especially since here, it takes on a subject I really enjoy: videogames! and it does it well! I commend the writers for doing something really good with its lore.
Okay, time to get back on my Teru Halloween drawing!!!!
